Description: The position of Assistant Public Relations Officer has become available and applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates.
This position is offered on a specified purpose contract until at least October 2007 to replace a staff member who is covering an acting up post.
The role: Within the Public Affairs team the Assistant Public Relations Officer will share in a range of responsibilities of the Office. S/he will be required to assist in the preparation of information and events. Working with budget holders across the Institute s/he will facilitate advertising requests and will be the first point of contact with DIT’s advertising agency. S/he will ensure that the agency is fully briefed on the background to each ad requested, that the budget holder is satisfied with the final proof and spend, and that financial procedures are complied with.
As part of the Public Affairs team the Assistant Public Relations Officer will work closely with the other members of the team to contribute to the production of:
• Web content
• Internal newsletters and other types of communication
• Advertising and marketing campaigns
• DIT publications
Qualifications/Requirements:
The ideal candidate will;
• Have a relevant degree-level qualification – a specific PR qualification would be an advantage
• Have a minimum of three years hands-on experience in a PR, Communications, Marketing or Event Management role
• Have an understanding of the Irish media agenda and structures
• Have excellent writing skills
• Have a good knowledge of the higher education sector
• Have Proven organisational ability
• Have well-developed interpersonal skills
Salary: €38,651 - €39,935 - €41,219 - €42,505 - €43,788 - €45,276 Long Service Increment – €46,763 Long Service Increment
NB It is normal procedure that appointees be placed on the first point of the scale i.e. €38,651 however please read below for circumstances where appointment may be at a higher point.
Incremental credit may be granted in respect of all previous relevant experience, subject to satisfactory certification, whether abroad or in Ireland.
In this context, ‘previous relevant experience’ refers to previous service in a similar grade in the Civil service, Local Authority Service, Health Service or other public bodies or agencies, in Ireland or abroad.
On appointment of individuals who do not have ‘previous relevant experience’ as set out in the context above, the normal procedure is that new appointees will be admitted to the salary scale at the minimum point of the scale. Only in exceptional circumstances, i.e. long appropriate experience and earnings, is entry above the minimum point allowed. The Institute may exercise discretion in this matter subject to entry no higher than the third point of the scale, i.e. two increments.
Successful candidates may only apply for incremental credit if their current earnings are greater than the minimum of the scale.
If a higher point than this is sought due to experience and salary, the Institute must submit a formal proposal to the Department of Education and Science for approval before any offer is made to a prospective appointee.

Google: Event Coordinator (Temporary) - EU Headquarters
This position is based in EU Headquarters, Dublin.
We have an immediate need for an experienced Event Coordinator to assist the European IT team with their busy event and speaker schedules.
Responsibilities:
- Help support the IT team’s strategic planning initiatives.
