NEO Ireland are delighted to open early registration for this year’s Events Day: Events Day 07 - Focus on Being Different in Association with the Round Room. We have a fantastic line-up of speakers and topics - all on the subject of how being different will help you market, deliver and enjoy your events.
Keynote Speaker: Deirdre Bounds
Our keynote will be delivered by Deirdre Bounds, founder of i-to-i Travel. Deirdre is a former comedienne (who also appeared on Wife Swap - erk). i-to-i travel is a very different type sort of travel company, it was, according to Deirdre, founded on the ethos of risk. Through sheer hard work and determination, Deirdre has made industry history by changing people’s perceptions of the ‘responsible travel’ movement. Her modern, innovative approach has transformed the dowdy notion of overseas volunteering into an aspirational, inspirational experience and widened the traditional ‘gap year’ age group from 17 to 70 plus.
Topics & Activities
The rest of day will focus on other aspects of being different and will include:* case studies of events that really were different (like the fantabulous Mark and Conor from the Street Performance World Championships); * Ever Tried Rebooting Yourself? How New Technologies Can Make a Difference (can’t wait to hear Tom Raftery on “Blogging is the New Black”) and * Inspiration - Where Do Those Ideas Come From (I’m know that Conor Kenny will help us out there…).
Showcase & Networking
And then there’s all that networking to do - with other event organisers and with our showcase suppliers. NEO members are invited to showcase their goods and services and so far, it’s looking like a really interesting showcase. Casino Enterprises love the ’07 themeing - guess why? The Queen of Networking, Tricia Murphy will be on hand all day to hand out Networking Tips.
Book Early and Receive a Special Early Registration Discount of 10%. You don’t need to be a NEO member to attend, you’ll be more than welcome, but NEO members do get a good discount! And we’d love you to join! Click on: www.eventsdayconference.com
Online Ad Spending to Touch a Record $20 Bn This Year
Market research firm eMarketer has predicted that online ad spending will reach a staggering $20 billion in 2007.
This figure represents an increase of 19 per cent compared to 2006 figures and is one of ten key predictions for the coming year made by eMarketer.
Massive online sales at Christmas exceeded analysts’ expectations and so the sharp rise predicted by the firm is certainly on the cards.
In fact, a rise of 19 per cent is down from the 30 per cent or more seen in the past few years but is still far greater than the 1.4 per cent growth predicted for the US advertising sector as a whole.
Other trends identified by eMarketer for 2007 include the increased prominence of online video ads, which consumers tend to actively seek out, growing social networks and more video game downloads.
User-generated content is also expected to make its way on to mobile TV, which will become more prominent over the course of the year.
Other predictions include an increase in Hispanic and African-American internet users, more b2c e-commerce, more user interactivity, the increase of voice over internet protocol services and broadband, and changes to TV viewing and its associated advertising.
Separate research from eMarketer found that gay, lesbian and bisexual internet users are more likely to use social networking sites than heterosexuals. Link

PR – Vodafone to partner with MySpace
Vodafone have announced that they partnered with MySpace (via RTE):
“The partnership means Vodafone customers can edit their MySpace profiles, post photos and blogs and get MySpace messages via their handsets. The MySpace Mobile service will be pre-loaded on to selected Vodafone handsets and available to download from the Vodafone live! site.”
Slowly but surely the mobile operators will realise that teens are starting to replace SMS by sending messages to their friends via Bebo and MySpace. More importantly, social networks are key to encouraging the existing subscription base to help repay their 3G investment. Want proof? Helio has announced that it is on track to rack up 100,000 subscribers and that their customers are spending $100 on average per month. Whoever links up with Bebo in Ireland stands to have similar success. Rumour has it that o2 is top of the queue.
Gallagher glad to get lifetime honour while he is young
The Wonderwall mastermind would hate to have received the honour when he is older because it would have felt like a sympathy vote - and the 39-year-old guitarist wants the British band to go out on a high.
He says: “I want to do it before I go bald. I’d like to do it before I’m 40 and still young to legitimately wear a black leather jacket. I’m glad we’re getting it now. When footage is shown of future Brits, there won’t be a fat, old geezers accepting it.”
Former Beatle Ringo Starr will present the award to the band at next Wednesday’s music ceremony in London.
